Items can be dropped off at any Red Cross office, or can be delivered to the Holidays for Heroes Open House on Tuesday 12/3/19 from 4:45 pm – 6:30 pm at 22 W. Washington Street, Petersburg, VA 23803. Questions about the open house can be directed to Christy.Carneal@redcross.org or 804-731-5682.

Partnership equips helicopters with blood products, saving the lives of multiple Virginians

The VCU Health Blood Bank and the American Red Cross have worked in partnership with the Virginia State Police Med-Flight Program and the VCU Health Critical Care Transport Network to deliver and administer blood products to trauma patients in central Virginia.

Early administration of packed red blood cells substantially increases a patient’s chance of survival. Since the partnership began in May 2019, multiple Virginians have been saved because they were able to receive a blood transfusion, in flight, before arriving to a surgical trauma center.
